Glasgow University Software Service
Who we are
GUSS provides affordable, flexible software services to a range of clients. We employ and manage Computing Science students from the University of Glasgow, as well as design students from other institutions. Our clients include small businesses, charities and universities. Our services include building websites, prototypes, app development and UX design.

GUSS Objectives
GUSS was set up in 2019 with four key objectives:
- Provide students with paid, meaningful opportunities to advance their career and enhance their experience of university.
- Supply much-needed affordable software development to local small businesses and not-for-profit organisations.
- Support Scotland’s tech start-up community with additional software development capabilities and a talent pipeline.
- Enable research and knowledge exchange collaborations between Computing Science and other disciplines within academia.

Our Ethos
GUSS is a self-sustaining project that operates on a not-for-profit basis. We charge for our services to cover running and growing the service for the benefit of our students, customers and School of Computing Science.
The welfare of our students is at the heart of our work, as is the successful completion of their studies. All student developers are supported by experienced project managers and typically work in pairs or larger teams. We limit the number of hours our students can work during term time (10 hours per week) and accommodate their needs for flexibility during exam times and other key points in their studies.
